Trasa s dĺžkou 110 km a celkovým stúpaním 6500 metrov patrí medzi tie najnáročnejšie vo východných Alpách a ukazuje jedny najkrajších scenérii.

GGUT 110 prevážne prebieha po okruhu “Glocknerrunde,” chodníku, ktorý vedie okolo najvyššej hory Rakúska, Grossglockneru (3798 m). Štart a cieľ pretekov s trasou 110 km / +6500 m je v Kaprune, región Pingau v Salzbursku. Táto trasa vedúca cez Národný park Vysoké Taury vedie bežcov mnohokrát cez technicky ťažký terén a vyžaduje silnú fyzickú a mentálnu odolnosť.

Počas posledných dvoch rokov sme dostali mnoho pozitívnych ohlasov o trase a organizácii podujatia, a neustály nárast počtu účastníkov hovorí sám za seba. Alpský trailový beh sa stáva stále viac populárny a s rôznymi trasami a ich dĺžkami môžeme uspokojiť rôzne úrovne skúseností a požiadaviek.

ENGLISH VERSION

The Grossglockner Ultra-Trail® (GGUT) is heading into its 3rd edition: From July 21-23, 2017, the region encompassing Austria’s highest mountain will focus on trail running. Mountain endurance brand DYNAFIT is again the proud lead sponsor of this unique trail competition. The 110-kilometer distance with 6,500 meters of climbing counts among the most challenging in the Eastern Alps, as well as the ultra run with some of the most beautiful scenery.

The GGUT 110 for the most part follows the “Glocknerrunde,” a trail that circles Austrian’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3,798m/12,460 ft). The start and finish of the 110k race with 6,500 meters of climbing is in Kaprun in the Pingau region of the state of Salzburg. This route through the Hohe Tauern National Park takes competitors multiple times across technically difficult terrain and demands strong physical and mental resilience. To satisfy both trail running pros and passionate recreational runners equally, the race offers not only the 110k Grossglockner Ultra-Trail® but also two shorter races: The Glockner Trail at 50k with 2,000 vertical meters and the Weissee “Gletscherwelt Trail” (Glacier World Trail) at 30k with 1,000 vertical meters. Both shorter distances give participants a first look at the GGUT adventure, and both join the main route at the rear stretch. In addition, two-person teams can split the full GGUT race distance, with a handoff at Kals am Grossglockner.

Organizers are estimating there will be a total this year of 1,200 starters from more than 40 countries. Each starter receives an attractive gift from title sponsor DYNAFIT. The starting gun goes off on Friday, July 21 at 11 p.m. for the GGUT, and on Saturday the two shorter distances will be contested. The course record of 15 hours, 13 minutes for the GGUT 110 is from 2016 and was set jointly by two athletes, Florian Grasel and Gerald Fister, who crossed the finish line together. The women’s record of 18 hours, 43 minutes was set in 2016 by Swedish runner Kristin Berglund.

Hubert Resch, founder and chair of the organizing committee, is set for yet another huge success this year for the event that encircles Austria’s highest mountain: “The Grossglockner Ultra-Trail® has become a fixed date on the racing calendar of both professional athletes and passionate recreational athletes. This region is simply breathtakingly beautiful and so diverse. In the last two yeas, we have received a lot of positive feedback about the route and event organization, and the constant growth in participant numbers speaks for itself. Alpine trail running is become more and more popular, and with various courses, as well as distances we can satisfy a variety of levels of experience and demands.”
