KOKAVA TRAIL
Kokava Trail is a mountain ultramarathon and long distance march in Veporské and Stolické vrchy mountains in Slovakia. In 2025 it will be the weekend of 5.-6. September, when the 2nd edition of Kokava Trail will welcome the participants. The race is being organized by o.z. SLOVAK ULTRA TRAIL.
Kokava Trail, of course in modern shape, continues the tradition of the long distance marches in this region of Slovakia. In the past it was Utekáčska horská stovka, which existed between the years 1977 and 1996, Podkrivánska šesťdesiatka, but especially Hriňovská stovka 100K race, with which not only a large part of the course is being shared, but also the race organizers team.
The Kokava Trail race shows the beauty of this part of Slovakia to the ultra runners and long distace hikers on the 78 km course with total elevation gain of 3300 meters. Between the start place (Námestie 1. mája square in Kokava nad Rimavicou) and the finish in the same place there is a long route trough the scenic landscape with panoramatic views, scattered small villages and natural attractions. The course, as it is usual by mountain ultramarathons, is a multi-terrain one. Significant are the large meadows. Forest paths and trails are making another part of the course. The tarmac (asphalt roads) makes about 10% of the 78 km course, the longest tarmac passage with 1,2 km is the course beginning in Kokava nad Rimavicou. There are no really technically difficult passages, but please, calculate with several steep ascents and descents and a long climb from Málinec to Brložno. The highest point of the course is the summit of Drahová (1118 meters a.s.l.).
There will be six aid stations on the Kokava Trail course - K1 in Utekáč, K2 at the Family pension (Kokava - Línia), K3 in the small village Bratkovica, K4 close to Táňovo, K5 in the village Málinec and K6 in the information center in the village Ďubákovo. During the preparation and during the race itself the organizers are cooperating with the local runners and hikers - volunteers from Lučenec, Utekáč, Banská Bystrica and of course - from Kokava nad Rimavicou.
In 2026 new course has been announces - Pasiečky Trail with 23 km distance and 1200 m total elevation gain. Either as a trail run or a hike, this is dedicated for all mountain runners and hikers. The start place and finish is the same as for the ultra course - Kokava nad Rimavicou. There will be two aid stations - sedlo Chorepa and Utekáč.
Kokava Trail 2026 is a part of the 12th edition of the Slovak Ultratrail League. The ultra course has been certified by ITRA (3 points) and is included in the list of ITRA National League races.
